Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of electrocution. (a) Location, Smith Dairy Farm. Yuma, CO. - On May 3, 1994 an employee of Smith Dairy was fatality electrocuted while using a "Milwaukee" brand electric drill to install a fence next to the maternity barn. The outer jacket on the electric drill was frayed subjecting the insulated conductors to possible damage and moisture. One method of abating this hazard is to follow the National Electrical Code book listed under article 110-3 and inspect portable electric tools prior to using.
