Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of electrocution. (a) Location, Smith Dairy Farm, 6345 County Rd. 33, Yuma CO. 80259 - On or about May 3, 1994, an employee of Smith Dairy Farm was fatality electrocuted while installing a new fence next to the maternity barn. Investigation results concluded that electrical system was not properly grounded in that the grounding wire was energized with 124 volts. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to properly ground the electrical system per the National Electrical Code Handbook listed in paragraph(s) 250-42 and 250-114.
