29 CFR 1910.138(a): General requirements. Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a. On and/or before November 3, 2017, in the resin room, the employer did not ensure that employees performing activities such as flushing the resin lines with steam for systems 1 and 2 used the proper gloves for protection against thermal burns. On or about November 3, 2017, an employee who was flushing the resin lines with steam for system 1 was injured by residual steam pressure in the system. A contributing cause to the injuries was due to the employee not wearing the proper gloves.
