Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to struck-by and crushing hazards due to incorrect cuts made to a trunk during tree felling operations. Location: 16 Chipman Drive Cheshire, CT On or about September 16, 2024, the employer failed to ensure that an employee felling a tree trunk left enough wood to create a hinge so the tree could be dropped in an anticipated direction. The employee suffered fatal crushing injuries when an approximately 16-foot, 8-inch-long tree trunk, with a diameter of approximately 19 inches fell on him.
