Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about 01/10/2011, at section 11, Township 45 S, Range 34E, Field 54CG11, Farm 18, Blumberg Road, Clewiston, FL, employees operating tractors towing sprayers were exposed to overhead electrical lines. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazardous condition would be to shorten the crop rows near the power lines to provide sufficient clearance during the execution of "U" turns to prevent inadvertent contact with the lines even if the spray arms were in the raised position; and ensure all employees are instructed to maintain safe approach boundaries when operating tractors and equipment near energized electrical conductors, as identified in Table 130.2C of NFPA 70E. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
