Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of burns and or electrocution: a)CCLP Groves - Arcadia, Fl. Block 10 East - John Beam Topper Machine - Serial # 5208 Employee was transporting a topper machine coupled and driven by a farm tractor, with the topper's mast extended in the cutting position, and came into contact with an overhead electrical powerline. The employee exited the tractor's cab, made contact with the tractor and ground, completing the electrical circuit, on or about 03/03/01. FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHODS OF ABATEMENT, AMONG OTHERS, TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD WOULD BE TO: 1. Not operate Pruning Machines within 15 feet of any electrical or telephone lines, as referenced by the Safety Operating Instructions of Tol, Incorporated; pages 17 & 19. 2. Train employees in, and ensure that they follow, the company's policy of moving vehicles with the booms in the down position, and not elevated.
