29 CFR 1910.138(a): Appropriate hand protection was not used when employee's hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. At the USP- Atwater mail room: On or about August 9, 2024, and at times prior thereto, the employer did not provide hand protection to employees who were sorting inmates mail exposing one employee to a fatal fentanyl absorption through his hands from a laced mail with fentanyl.
